Trip Overview

Known as the Valley of Glaciers, Langtang valley is a beautiful amalgamation of nature and culture, making it one of the most popular trekking destinations. The Langtang Region, although, severely affected by the 2015 Nepal earthquake has been recuperating tremendously. The Langtang valley trek is run and administered inside the area of Langtang National Park. Langtang valley trek offers a great chance of viewing the Himalayas without strenuous effort. And its close proximity with Kathmandu makes this trek viable for travelers with a time restraint.

Langtang valley trek provides an opportunity to relish in the natural as well as cultural aspects of the Himalayas in just a short trek of 12 days. The trek starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Sybrubensi, from where the adventure starts. The trail passes through several Tamang settlements and dense rhododendron forests, throughout. Trekkers will move through the Langtang valley alongside the Langtang River while being accompanied by the giants such as the Langtang Lirung (7234m), Dorje Lakpa (6966m), and other peaks of the region. Langtang Valley trek reaches the most sacred monastery of the region—Kyanjin Gompa. Kyanjin Gompa provides an opportunity to look into Buddhist scripts, culture, and art while looking picturesque with the backdrop of the Himalayas. Kyanjin village is also famous for the yak cheese produced locally. The trail also climbs up to Tserko Ri (5000m), the highest altitude of the trek, for a stunning panorama of the widespread Himalayas. Walking past deep forests, terraced farmlands, beautiful waterfalls, and scattered settlements. The trekker gets to have a closer look at the Tamang culture, tradition, and lifestyle.

Trip Itinerary

Day 01:  Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m)

Our agent will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your hotel.

Day 02:  Free day in Kathmandu and trek preparation

We will explore Kathmandu city and its heritage sites like Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, and Boudhanath. In the afternoon, we will discuss our trekking plans and spend some time to make preparation for the trek. Any last minute shopping should be done today. Overnight at guest house.

Day 03:  Drive from Kathmandu to Sybrubensi (1,550m): 7-8 hours

We leave Kathmandu early in the morning as we drive to Sybrubensi, the gateway to Langtang. We enjoy a peaceful but sometimes bumpy drive amid the hills and alongside the Trishuli River. After a scenic drive past several countryside settlements, we arrive in Sybrubensi. If the weather is clear, the peaks of Manaslu (8156m), Annapurna (8091m), and Ganesh Himal (7422m) can be seen from here. Overnight at guest house.

Day 04:  Trek from Sybrubensi to Lama Hotel (2,380m): 6 hours

After breakfast, we slowly ascend to a higher altitude alongside the Langtang River. As we walk through oak and rhododendron forests, we are able to visit small Tamang villages, which are adorned with stones houses, constructed impeccably, and also get a breathtaking view of the mountains. Since the trail lies inside the Langtang National Park, we might catch a glimpse of the rare red panda, if we're lucky. We might also encounter other animals and birds along the way. Overnight at Lama Hotel.

Day 05:  Trek to Mundu (3543m) via Langtang village: 6-7 hours

We continue to walk up through the rocky terrain with plenty of waterfalls along the way. We follow the Langtang River uphill as we walk past through the wide yak pastureland of Ghoda Tabela. With an enticing view of the Langtang range, we walk past few villages and monasteries to arrive in the Tamang village of Langtang. For better accommodation, we cross a Mani wall and walk a little further to the village of Mundu. Overnight at guest house.

Day 06:  Mundu to Kyangin Gompa (3,870m): 4-5 hours

We leave Mundu behind to arrive one of the most important landmarks of the trek. We walk past a few villages, water mills, and Chortens to arrive in Kyanjin Gompa. Kyangin Gompa is a monastery of great significance to the inhabitants of this region. Along the way, we will see many prayer flags and wheels, and small prayer houses that people have built. The Buddhist culture can be felt so deeply here. Overnight at guest house.

Day 07:  Acclimatization- Explore Tserko Ri (5000m) 7-8 hours

Today we hike up to Tserko Ri, the highest altitude of our trek, by making our way through various pastures with Yaks. The sunrise atop the Tserko Ri is spectacular and a sight worth the climb as we get a breathtaking view of the Langtang range. After spending some time there, we hike back to Kyanjin and explore the village. We can visit the local yak cheese factory and taste the cheese, or buy it. Overnight at guest house.

Day 08:  Kyangin Gompa to Lama Hotel: 6-7 hours

After breakfast, we trek down along familiar landscapes to Lama Hotel. One can see that all the homes in the Tamang villages are made out of stones and all are facing east, towards the rising sun. This makes for a stunning view of the village nestled in the heart of the Himalayas. Overnight at Lama Hotel.

Day 09:  Lama Hotel to Sybrubensi: 4-5 hours

From Lama Hotel, we make our way to Sybrubensi which is also the last day of trekking for us. We retrace our steps walking amid the lush rhododendron forest while being accompanied by Langtang River. Overnight at guest house.
